Hikiän Biodynamic Honey

Our honey is guaranteed non-processed, unheated, unpasteurized and free from all impurities, pesticides and GMO. This is why honey retains all the important vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes.

We carefully harvest the honey by hand and before bottling the only process it goes through is resting.

Hikiän Biodynamic Honey has exceptionally low HMF level, 3,3 mg/kg. Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) level ranges from 0 to 40 mg/kg. According to Finland’s Beekeeping Association 15 mg/kg is considered as good quality. Maximum allowable level is 40 mg/kg.

Lower the HMF level is more enzyme activity and healing power can be expected. This also means that there is less processing such as refining, filtering, heating and treating.

HMF is a break-down product of fructose. It forms slowly during storage and very quickly when honey is heated.  Fresh natural honey can have varying levels of HMF.  In the hive honey would normally be below 1 mg/kg but levels soon start to rise with temperatures above 20°C. It is usual for HMF to be below 10 mg/kg in fresh extracted honey. Levels higher than this may indicate excessive heating during the extraction process or packaging process.

Hikiän Propolis

You may wonder what propolis is. The word comes from Greek language “pro polis”, meaning to protect the city.

It is quite accurate, because the bees use propolis as glue, a general-purpose sealer to cover minor cracks in the hive and protect and sterilize their living environment from any bacteria. This is how they stay safe from diseases also over the winter.

Hikiän Propolis is a pure superpower from Finnish nature. It is a natural product derived from plant resins. Our bees collect tree sap mainly from pines and spruces and mix it with their saliva and enzymes to create propolis.
Enriched in flavonoids, phenol acids and terpene derivatives propolis is used for its antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-ulcer and anti-inflammatory properties.

Chemical compound of propolis is quite complicated. The contents depend on the sap collecting location, time and plant sources. Yet over 300 compounds have been identified including:

Hikiän Propolis is known for its ability to kill bacteria. It is commonly used to treat flu and sore throat. However, you may also use it on to your skin. Many people have found Hikiän Propolis useful for acne, eczema and skin burns.

How to use Propolis?

You may mix it into a glass of water by adding 10–30 drops of propolis extract. Some like to use it as it is and take 1 to 2 drops directly into their mouth or throat. We recommend water mix for the milder taste.

You may also use it externally on a damaged skin. Just put 1–15 drops on your skin and rub gently. Avoid water contact on that surface at least for a few hours.

Imporant to note

If you are allergic to pollen or other bee products it is not recommended to use propolis. It is not recommended to use it over any traditional medicines or as a self-treatment or self-diagnose.
Please consult your physician if you have any existing health issues.
